LOMA is looking for a Director of Examinations with experience in psychometrics and/or statistics along with strong leadership skills to join our team.
 
LOMA, an international research and education association for the insurance and financial services industry, serves the training and development needs of its 1,200 member companies. More than 100,000 individuals across the world enroll for our courses and programs as a part of their professional development. The Director will work closely with the Assistant Vice President, Examinations in leading a team of examination developers with experience in assessment, education program evaluation and quantitative research methods.   
 
 
Summary of Position
This position plans, schedules, reviews and edits the work of examination development professionals, provides feedback on their work, and guides team members in day-to-day product development efforts.The incumbent also is responsible for maintaining the strong reputation that the department has earned over the years and for identifying and managing projects related to testing with the goal of improving test quality, improving efficiency and productivity of staff, and assuring LOMA’s products adhere to professional standards for testing. Occasionally, the individual serving as Director may need to perform many of the same functions required of senior associates reporting to him/her.
 
RESPONSIBILITIES:
 
  • Guide the Examinations team members in day-to-day product development efforts. Hire, train, develop, lead, motivate, and evaluate performance and determine salaries and promotability of assigned staff to help each reach his/her maximum potential for productivity and quality of work.
  • Lead efforts to monitor examination quality on a regular basis, including overseeing periodic item analysis of exam components in all product types.
  • Assure the ongoing security of examination administration and work with the Registrar, the AVP, and the methods and statistics coordinator to create procedures and safeguards to prevent cheating.
  • Identify opportunities for using the department’s existing item bank and study materials to develop new types of product offerings.
  • Identify research projects related to test development, conduct or lead research projects and make recommendations to division management based on the research with the goal of (1) improving test quality and (2) improving the efficiency and productivity of the staff and (3) assuring the adherence of LOMA’s products to professional standards for testing.
  • Participate in the development of participant surveys related to examinations and/or assessments and oversee the analysis of the data collected.
  • Collaborate with others in E&T in accomplishing assignments.
  • Involve staff members in research projects and guide them in making improvements based on research findings.
  • Research and evaluate technology and software for test development and data analyses and make recommendations as appropriate.
  • Monitor the international government policy decisions/reforms relating to academic criteria of examinations and update management on any significant developments.
  • Maintain an active and engaged panel of examination reviewers.

  • Ph.D or Master’s degree in psychometrics, preferably, or in statistics or testing methodology and at least two years of professional work experience in assessments, education program evaluation, or the equivalent.
 
 
  • Demonstrated strong leadership skills and decision-making with the ability to provide effective feedback, coaching, and mentoring to staff.
  • Outstanding sensitivity, tact, and diplomacy in dealing with customers during times of suspected irregularities in examination administration.
  • Ability to influence and/or direct the activities of a variety of individuals.
 
 
  • Excellent interpersonal skills including the capacity to communicate effectively with LOMA member companies, committee members, and project team members.
 
 
  • Outstanding human relations skills and capability to represent the division and LOMA effectively in interactions with external organizations and individuals.
 
 
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills; able to work on and prioritize multiple projects.
 
 
  • Strong problem solving and decision making skills; innovative, creative.
 
 
  • Demonstrated flexibility and the ability to manage in a changing environment.
 
 
  • Successful completion of FLMI designation or other education in insurance/financial subjects preferred. The FLMI designation must be earned within the first two years of employment.
